Domestic Violence

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is not confined to certain groups. Anyone can be a victim of domestic violence. Everyone argues or fights with their partner or spouse now and then. When that quarrel gets out of control and turns to physical violence or abuse it becomes a crime.

Domestic violence charges have increased dramatically in recent years. If police officers observe an abrasion, cut or other evidence on a victim's person, they have no discretion and must arrest the offender. Typically, the offender is taken to the county jail, must post bond and is ordered to stay away from the victim for 72 hours.

Defendants charged with Domestic Battery are not eligible for court supervision. Thea has represented many clients with Domestic Violence charges. Many of her clients have received dismissal of their cases; many have received court supervision after Thea negotiated with the Prosecutor. Each case has different facts and requires a unique strategy. Thea will review your case and advise as to the best defense plan.
